Visa Requirements

Austria is part of the Schengen Area, which means travelers from most countries need a Schengen visa for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period. Below are the key requirements to help you apply for a tourist visa for Austria.

1. Completed Visa Application Form

The first step in obtaining a visa for Austria is to complete the Schengen visa application form. This form is available online or at the Austrian embassy or consulate. You will need to fill it out accurately and sign it before submitting it.

2. Valid Passport

Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of your departure from Austria. Additionally, it must have two blank pages for visa stamps. Your passport should also be issued within the last 10 years.

3. Visa Fee

The Schengen visa fee for Austria is typically €80 for adults and €40 for children aged 6 to 12 years. This fee is non-refundable, regardless of the outcome of your application.

4. Recent Passport-sized Photographs

You will need to submit two recent passport-sized color photos that meet Schengen visa photo specifications (35mm x 45mm, with a white background).

5. Flight Itinerary

You must provide proof of your flight reservation showing your entry and exit dates from Austria. This can be a round-trip flight booking or an itinerary for travel within Austria and the Schengen Area.

6. Accommodation Proof

To prove where you’ll be staying during your visit, you’ll need to provide hotel reservations or a letter of invitation if staying with friends or relatives in Austria. The invitation letter should include details such as the host’s address and contact information.

7. Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is a requirement for your Schengen visa application. It must cover medical emergencies and have a minimum coverage of €30,000. Your insurance should be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Austria and all other Schengen countries you plan to visit.

8. Proof of Sufficient Funds

You must show that you have enough money to support yourself during your stay in Austria. This can include bank statements for the last 3 to 6 months, payslips, or proof of income. If you’re being sponsored by someone, they will need to submit a sponsorship letter along with their financial documents.

9. Cover Letter (Optional)

Though not always required, you may choose to write a cover letter explaining the purpose of your trip. This letter should outline your travel itinerary, accommodation plans, and any activities you plan to undertake during your stay in Austria.

10. Biometric Data

In most cases, applicants are required to provide biometric data (fingerprints and photographs). This is typically collected during your application submission at the Austrian embassy or visa application center.
